“Kids lose themselves in books, they find themselves there too” ~ Lewis Keagen

Where the Sidewalk Ends Bookstore is honored to be a partner bookstore with the MLK Education Task Force which is actively engaged in a new community service effort to enhance classroom libraries for teachers in the Monomoy and Nauset School districts. The Task Force is a subcommittee of the MLK Action Team of Cape Cod’s Nauset Interfaith Association (www.NausetInterfaith.org), whose mission is to address social and racial justice issues on the Cape.

We join the MLK Education Task Force in their belief that all children should have opportunities to find themselves in books. It’s important that children experience literature that includes protagonists they can relate to. Our goal is to provide third grade teachers from the Nauset and Monomoy school districts the opportunity to enhance and diversify their classroom libraries with books featuring children and families of color.

We invite our customers and readers to donate books in support of this effort. Stop in, scroll to the bottom to submit a form, or call the store at 508-945-0499 for information on how to help!

The MLK Education Task Force’s work with Cape Cod schools is not new. Many of the attendees to their conferences commented that they would very much welcome having a wider range of books in their classrooms, especially those representing a variety of cultures and ethnicities. We want to fulfill that request by providing new, donated books to all third-grade teachers in the two school districts.

Thank you for considering help in these efforts!

We are happy to connect you to the MLK Education Task Force directly for a monetary donation, OR we could choose book titles that fit your budget off of their recommended list and coordinate your purchase for their book drive; the amount field is below. Thank you for supporting this important effort!
